Mark van Bommel has been called up for the squad of the Dutch national team after all. Coach Van Basten made an appeal to the Barcelona player, when he was informed that Wesley Sneijder was ruled out because of an injury. InvitationThe former PSV player last received an invitation five months ago. Since he made an appearance against Romania, Van Bommel has been frequently included in the provisional squad, but never called up for the final squad of the Dutch national team. Van Bommel has been regularly included in the FC Barcelona starting XI lately and he has made his mark by scoring some fine goals. Last weekend Van Basten announced that Van Bommel was third in the pecking order of right flank midfielders, behind Denny Landzaat and Sneijder. Now that Sneijder has withdrawn, Van Basten consistently called up the winner of the Golden Shoe Award after all. The Dutch team will meet Italy in Amsterdam on Saturday in a pre-World Cup 2006 friendly.
