PSV did not find the net for the first time during their pre-season campaign. Opponents Stoke City could not break the deadlock either in Tuesday nights pre-season friendly, so the game ended in a 0-0 draw. PSV had a tough day: the trip, the oppressive heat and fatigue got to them. And Stoke put in an efficient and committed performance. Yet PSV had their moments in the first period. Arouna Koné, Jefferson Farfán en Ibrahim Afellay created openings, but Stoke goalkeeper Steve Simonsen kept a clean sheet by pulling off a string of great saves. The Coca Cola Championship hosts earned one chance before the break. Stoke, founded in 1863 and the oldest club in the world but one, played a typically English kind of game. They were solid in defence, showed a great deal of discipline, were physically strong, but lacked cutting edge up front. PSV piled up the pressure at times, but failed to finish.Neither team managed to create any clear-cut chances during the second half in the Britannia Stadium. PSV showed signs of fatigue. Roy Beerens did well as a substitute. Farfán and Koné threatened, but could not make the difference, either. Koeman rested the internationals who had resumed training only last Monday. PSV will continue the pre-season preparations this week and play Newcastle United at St. James Park next Saturday afternoon.
