PSV, Feyenoord and AZ have already done it; Ajax can make sure next week and sc Heerenveen stand a fair chance of playing European football after the winter break. PSV manager Guus Hiddink is full of praise for the maturity shown by the Dutch clubs. "You see, we dont have to squirm to make the league more exciting", announced Guus Hiddink at the PSV training ground De Herdgang yesterday. He once again made it clear that he is no advocate of the play-off competition that will be introduced next season."AZ will surely have deserved Champions League football, if they are second in the Dutch league at the end of the current season and they should be rewarded for that feat. It would be a shame if they were to be denied of that by playing one or two unlucky play-off games." If Ajax and sc Heerenveen succeed in qualifying for the UEFA Cup fourth round, as many as five Dutch clubs will take part in European competitions next spring.Hiddink: "The Dutch clubs have put up excellent performances and you see that the Dutch league has reached a certain degree of maturity. It is great for Dutch football in general that more Dutch clubs collect points in Europe. It is a wonderful development!"
