Since yesterday YouTube have made their video site available for a special Dutch version. PSV have entered into an agreement to supply the website with content, provided by PSV TV. YouTube have also closed deals with, among other clubs, Chelsea, Real Madrid en FC Barcelona.
European top clubs
YouTube is the most popular video community in the world as far as discovering, watching and sharing unique content is concerned. Actually the familiar English version does not differ much from the Dutch one, apart from some details, while the language used is obviously Dutch. YouTube launched a further eight local versions in Europe and in other countries in the world, including France, Japan, Brazil, the Republic of Ireland, Poland, Spain, Italy and the United Kingdom, with the emphasis on local films in each version. In order to enhance the launch’s success, YouTube have completed deals with several international and national content providers, among whom several broadcasting stations and a number of European top clubs. AC Milan, FC Barcelona, Real Madrid, Chelsea as well as PSV are officially and prominently represented in the video site’s local country version.
“Interactive cooperation”
Peter Kentie, PSV’s Manager Marketing & Media, is happy that PSV has been involved as first Dutch Eredivisie top club ever since the Dutch version’s launch. “We are proud Google have asked us to be part of the launch of the Dutch content offer. We are the first football club in Nederland and the big top clubs in Europe have preceded us. This cooperation with YouTube yields a natural mixture of our own video material, related video material produced by the fans and the viewers’ responses to the pictures. I think it is a great to cooperate interactively in this way.” The PSV channel on YouTube is also designed to promote the video website PSV TV Online. “We put a topical extract of the available video clips on YouTube, as well as clips that are aimed at international markets, so we are able to reach the fans in all countries, courtesy to the cooperation with Google and YouTube”, concluded Kentie.
