The Dutch internationals came together in Noordwijk yesterday afternoon to start preparing for the 2008 qualifiers against Romania on Saturday and Slovenia on Wednesday October 17. Holland coach Marco van Basten has called Danny Koevermans into his squad after Dirk Kuyt was ruled out through injury.
The Holland squad will train on the pitches of amateur club Katwijk today and tomorrow, before they leave for Romania on Friday. The players first warmed up at the Tuesday night training session before they did several 'piggy in the middle' exercises and played a practise game. Danny Koevermans told PSV TV he was greatly honoured to have been called up. 'I was pleasantly surprised, as I did not know Dirk Kuyt had picked up an injury.' Koevermans is delighted to have received a call-up for the second time. 'I am now feeling a different kind of stress, as I have met my team mates before. I hope to be included in the Holland squad for the qualifier against Slovenia at the Philips Stadium in Eindhoven. That would be marvellous. This is like a dream and as far as I am concerned I hope to keep on dreaming for a while!', said Koevermans.
