When analysing the game, Jan Wouters told media representatives at the post-match conference he was delighted PSV had reached their goal of playing European football in the new year. 'It is an important victory for the club. I thought we were well-organised and conceded little', concluded Wouters, who added he had put his trust in defender Slobodan Rajkovic.
'We knew he would rise to the occasion. He deserves praise for a terrific performance', said Wouter, praising the Serb defender, who is only eighteen years old. 'He is tall, physically strong and keeps his composure when he is in possession of the ball. He may be young, but he has proved he can play at this level. We missed Addo and Da Costa and Jan Kromkamp had not shaken off a knee problem completely. Rajkovic put in a very convincing display.' Wouters also thought PSV had conceded very little in defence. 'We were well-organised. We started some fine moves in the first period, but after the break we were forced to defend deeply, while the condition of the pitch deteriorated. We conceded little, but survived some late scares.'
Just like many other people, Wouters was amazed that the Brazilian stars did not feature for CSKA tonight. 'We had already been told at the hotel that four of their key players would not start, but we didn't know if those stories were just rumours or stories based on facts.'
