PSV Media - PSV have reached an agreement with FC Utrecht for the transfer of Erik Pieters, subject to a medical. The 19-year-old defender had already agreed personal terms with PSV earlier this week. Erik Pieters will sign a deal that will keep him under contract with PSV until the summer of 2012.
An U-21 international
Erik Pieters, born in Tiel on 7 August 1988, came through the ranks at FC Utrecht. He became a first-team regular in Utrecht last season, scoring two goals in 31 Eredivisie appearances. Pieters is a Holland U-21 international, who won the 2007 European Under-21 Championship, held in the Netherlands. Foppe de Haan, coach of the Dutch Olympic team, has also named the young defender in his provisional 36-man squad for the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Erik Pieters, whose contract with FC Utrecht was due to expire in the summer of 2011, will undergo a medical later this afternoon.
