PSV coach Huub Stevens and captain Timmy Simons previewed Tuesday's game with Olympique Marseille at the traditional pre-match press conference, ahead of the training session in the Stade Vélodrome The French are wary of the threat posed by striker Danny Koevermans.
Danny Koevermans
His two decisive goals against Olympique in Eindhoven, his goal at Anfield and the wonder strike against Willem II have gained Koevermans a reputation as a clinical finisher. French reporters asked both Simons and Stevens for their opinion about the striker. 'Danny scores a lot of goals. He can also hold the ball up really well because he is strong and brings other players into the game. Moreover he is a genuine team player, which I think is very important. Danko Lazovic brings his own football style. They may both play tomorrow, but then again they may not. I prefer to keep all my options open', said Stevens, who did not commit himself, just like Simons, who also liked to keep his cards close to his chest.
Timmy Simons' preview
Stevens said that PSV are not afraid of taking on Olympique Marseille at the Stade Vélodrome, after his side recorded a win in the reverse encounter on Matchday 3. 'Fear is a bad counsellor. But we will obviously respect our opponents.' Stevens remained tight-lipped about his starting line-up. 'We have selected nineteen players and one of them will watch the match from the stands. We have a fully-fit squad to choose from. Mike Zonneveld has returned to full fitness.' Timmy Simons damped the optimism after PSV claimed two consecutive Eredivisie wins and the victory over Olympique Marseille two weeks ago. 'It's no use getting carried away. We must improve our game. We are working hard, but ups and down often go hand in hand.' PSV boss Huub Stevens had a small incident with Edison Mendez on the training ground on Sunday. Simons played down the incident. 'Incidents like this happen in training sessions all the time. There is no issue and there is no problem between our coach and Edison and that's all I can say.'
