PSV's General Manager Jan Reker told assembled media representatives at a press conference on Monday afternoon that Mexican defender Carlos Salcido is still vice captain at PSV. Jan Reker: 'We met earlier today but have agreed not to say what we have discussed.'
'A clear talk'
Both parties have agreed not to say what has been discussed', said Reker in the Philips Stadium on Monday afternoon. The board had a 30-minute meeting with the player and an English speaking assistant of his agent. The meeting had already been arranged two weeks ago. 'We won't say what has been discussed, but it was a very clear talk', said Reker. PSV's General Manager did not know if Salcido would start against Liverpool on Tuesday. 'It's not up to me to announce the starting line-up.' Reker confirmed that Salcido is still a PSV player and added that the Mexican will retain the vice captaincy behind Timmy Simons. Reker admitted that he was 'somewhat surprised' by a critical interview that Salcido had with a national newspaper on Saturday. 'Actually he doesn't say that much in the media. But whatever we do, we can never take the right decision. If we drop him from the squad, we would harm the team. If he is included in the starting line-up, media will blame us for sending the 'wrong signal.' However, we think he should play, if it is in the interest of PSV.' After lunch Salcido and his team mates went to Oisterwijk to complete preparations for the final UEFA Champions League Group D game against Liverpool in Eindhoven on Tuesday.
