PSV MEDIA - Jan van Beveren has returned to the Philips Stadium after 28 years. The legendary goalkeeper is guest of honour with PSV and met some former team mates ahead of PSV's clash with Liverpool. 'This is amazing. I can't believe my eyes', said Van Beveren.
A very special experience
Van Beveren is in Holland to attend to some family matters and he availed himself of the opportunity to pay a visit to his old club. Kees Rijvers, Harry Lubse, Willy van der Kuylen, Adrie van Kraaij and André van Gerven, among other players, met to have a drink and a bite, at the invitation of PSV's General Manager Jan Reker. Being back at the Philips Stadium was a very special experience for Van Beveren, who has been living in Texas in the United States of America for many years ''This is amazing. I can't believe my eyes. How things have changed!', said the most legendary goalkeeper in the history of PSV. Thanks to his goalkeeping heroics, PSV won the UEFA Cup in 1978. Kees Rijvers was at the helm at PSV as head coach at the time; Van der Kuylen wore the captain's armband and Huub Stevens played in defence.
'A special evening'
'I am delighted to meet up with some players here in Eindhoven. I met Willy van der Kuylen in Amsterdam in 2000. Kees Rijvers and I got along together very well. I haven't seen him for a long time and that's why this evening is so special', said Van 'A journalist friend of mine keeps me informed about football in Holland. I don't see much of PSV, so it's hard for me to have an opinion. But it's great to be back here tonight. It's been 28 years, but now it seems such a short time. It's wonderful to see the stadium. How things have changed! In 1980, I think the budget was six million guilders, whereas it is 65 million euros these days. It's hard to believe.'
