PSV, who had thrashed opponents 0-10 in their first two games of the pre-season campaign, also won their third-pre season friendly, in five days' time. Danny Koevermans scored the only goal of the game against De Valk amateurs to hand Fred Rutten's side a narrow victory at the Valkennest in Valkenswaard.
Internationals back in action
PSV head coach Fred Rutten handed starts to several internationals who had reported back for pre-season training as PSV took on De Valk amateurs on a humid Wednesday night. Timmy Simons, Carlos Salcido, Edison Méndez and André Ooijer made their first start in the pre-season campaign. PSV dominated proceedings from start to finish but the deadlock was only broken after half an hour's play, when a well-delivered cross from Nordin Amrabat was converted by Danny Koevermans; 0-1. Amrabat had replaced Danko Lazovic one minute before. The Serb striker picked up an injury after he had made a surging run across the pitch. The hosts never really tested goalkeeper Bas Roorda.
22 players
Fred Rutten made his customary number of changes at half-time, bringing on, among other players, youngsters Jeroen Zoet, Dirk Marcellis, Olivier ter Horst, Erik Pieters, Eelco Horsten, Kay Velda and Lars Hutten, while Mike Zonneveld, Stijn Wuytens and Haibin Zhou came on as substitutes in the course of the second half. All in all, Rutten gave 22 players match practise. PSV had some chances to extend their advantage but De Valk defended well and PSV lacked luck at times. PSV will train in Oisterwijk on Thursday and end the second week of pre-season training with a friendly against UDI'19 in Uden on Saturday, with a 16:00 kick-off.
